We connect industry with academia to encourage collaboration on priority issues; share insights and knowledge gleaned with the wider sector; attract additional UK and EU funding into Scottish aquaculture; encourage new generations into the sector and develop those already working within it. SAIC’s innovation programme is delivered through three key workstreams: Driving Innovation, Sharing Innovation and Nurturing Innovation.
We’re funded by the Scottish Funding Council in partnership with Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise. Our mission is to transform Scottish aquaculture by unlocking sustainable growth through innovation excellence.
We work with over 100 consortium members, investing in collaborative research projects in the areas of fish health and welfare, nutrition, shellfish production, capacity and sustainable industry growth. So far, we’ve instigated 25 projects with a combined investment of over £34 million – and we’ll be announcing more soon. We also help grow the industry’s talent pool by supporting MSc and PhD places, internships and training programmes.
